Newly formed - Dog Lovers Club, Vadodara - for the first time organised a dog show here on Sunday. In all, 217 dogs from across the state took part in the show.
"Usually, dog shows organised by the Kennel Club of India are open only for registered dogs. But our idea was to provide a common platform which is open for all dogs, both registered and unregistered," secretary of the club, K S Massey said. Pet owners were motivated to take care of the dogs by sharing tips on the kind of care that should be provided to specific breeds, he added.
Breeds like Miniature Pinscher or Min Pin, Pug, Cocker Spaniel, Doberman, Boxers, German Shepherd, French Mastiffs, Saint Bernard and Labrador from Gandhidham, Surat, Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Bharuch apart from the city took part in the show.
"To add excitement, we had also organised ladies dog handling competition, child dog handling competition and fancy dress competition," said Massey, adding that a training demonstration was also organised during the show.
