A SPECIAL visitor to see residents at a Bromsgrove care home has proved to be top dog. Wayside Care Home, in New Road, welcomed Pets as Therapy dog Harvey, brought along to the care home by volunteer Rachel Jenkins on September 19. The two-year-old bullmastiff has previously been shown off at Crufts, and residents welcomed him with toys and treats.
The visit was organised by the Pets as Therapy charity, which provides therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes with friendly, temperament tested dogs and cats. Wayside activities co-ordinator Sue MacFarlane said: “We’re hoping the visits will become a regular thing, twice a month. “Lots of our residents were pet owners before they came to live here and owned dogs, cats and birds so it is lovely for them to have regular contact with animals again. It will be really beneficial for them."
