The Humane Society has several dogs that are either injured or a part of ongoing animal cruelty cases. That means they cannot be adopted just yet, but need a safe place to live in the mean time. Unfortunately, without fosters, they are being placed wherever there is space at the society.
John Dinon is the executive director for the Toledo Area Humane Society in Maumee. He says because there are so many dogs right now in need of foster care, there is not enough space on the adoption floor. It has gotten to the point where the society is asking people who want to give up dogs to hold onto them as long as possible.
Dinon says fosters are provided with everything they need to care for the dogs. Plus if the dogs do become adoptable, fosters are given the option to adopt before anyone else.
Dinon says the fostered animals usually do become adoptable, it's just a matter of when. For example the pretrial for 8 dogs that were seized is not scheduled until December 21 st; and while they are part of a case, the society cannot re home them.
